Why Do Cats Hiss At Kittens
They dont care that theyre little.
Why do cats hiss at kittens. We cats really dont like to get in fights. For instance if a mother cat feel like her kittens are being threatened or in danger she may hiss at an intruder. A poorly socialised kitten can grow up to become an adult cat afraid of humans and new things and this too can lead to anxiety.
Your cat is likely to be hissing at her kittens because she is either scalding them for being naughty stressed out anxious or had a separation from them for a long period resulting in her not recognizing them. You bring the new fuzzy baby home and your older cat is not happy about it. Perhaps your new furbaby is now frightened or is even responding in kind.
Dont take this personally in my experience its really not the case. Dont worry your cat wont hurt her own kittens unless theyre sick or in danger. Cats that feel like they are in danger may hiss in a confrontation with another animal or hiss at a person whom they dont feel comfortable around.
A cat may hiss at the new kitten because she is expressing territorial aggression feeling unsettled and unwilling to share her space. They have newborn kittens. Sometimes cats might hiss at new kittens because the kitten smells unpleasant or strange.
Your cat will often act like they are upset at you too when you bring a new cat into the home. A cat hissing at a new kitten or cat isnt unusual. Thats why we do so much hissing and growling and snarling all that cussing is done to avert a fight before it gets physical.
A kitten can also hiss if his siblings get a little rough in play and it will be his way to let them know to settle down. Cats are very concerned about their territory. Cats are notoriously creatures of habit and changes in routine and environment can startle them and leave them feeling on edge.
